Innodisk’s Fire Shield SSD Survives 800°C Flames, Preserving Data in Vehicle Accidents

After years of rigorous testing, Innodisk’s latest “Black Box”‑inspired storage solution, the Fire Shield SSD, has proven its resilience. In a controlled test, the device was exposed to direct flames at 800 °C for over 30 minutes, yet data integrity remained 100 % intact before and after the ordeal. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has already granted a patent for this technology.

Modern vehicles are engineered with extensive safety features, but fire remains an ever‑present hazard. In the United States alone, more than 400 vehicle‑related fires occur annually, often destroying vital event‑recording data that could illuminate accident causes. The Fire Shield SSD addresses this critical gap by safeguarding data even under extreme thermal stress.

The unit’s design incorporates a three‑layer defense system: flame‑resistant copper alloy, a drive‑protecting connector architecture, and a heat‑isolating lining. By integrating over 20 heat‑resistant materials with low thermal conductivity, the SSD shields its NAND flash from catastrophic temperatures.

Available in a SATA 3.5‑inch form factor, the Fire Shield SSD will be showcased at Innodisk’s booth during this year’s Computex in Taipei.
