Vayyar Unveils 60‑GHz Automotive Radar‑on‑Chip, Meeting Euro NCAP and US Safety Standards
Vayyar Imaging announced the world’s first 60‑GHz automotive‑grade MIMO radar‑on‑chip (ROC) at CES 2020. Building on its proven 79‑GHz reference design, this low‑cost solution empowers automakers to satisfy Euro NCAP and U.S. Hot Cars Act safety mandates while delivering advanced sensing capabilities.
The ROC captures a vehicle’s environment in high‑resolution 4‑D voxel point‑clouds, revealing the size, location, breathing pattern, and movement of occupants. Its proprietary imaging technology provides full scene classification regardless of line of sight, lighting, or severe weather, thereby enhancing in‑cabin safety. (See how it works here.)
Vayyar highlights that this high‑performance, cost‑effective sensor is the first of its kind to meet global regulatory requirements. The 60‑GHz platform offers Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs the same functionality as the 79‑GHz variant, including up to 48 transceivers and an integrated DSP for real‑time signal processing.
Designed for seamless integration, the multi‑function ROC reduces the sensor count and wiring complexity, cutting overall vehicle cost. Additional features can be added over time via OTA software upgrades, ensuring the system evolves with future safety and connectivity standards.
The 60‑GHz ROC is ready for mass production after rigorous CPD and SBR testing over the past year, covering millions of samples to verify reliability, accuracy, and versatility. Vayyar will also provide an In‑Car Evaluation Kit in both 60‑GHz and 79‑GHz versions, offering identical software and performance for rapid deployment.
