IBM Invests $200M in Munich Hub to Drive Watson IoT Innovation
IBM has unveiled a $200 million investment in a new innovation hub in Munich, Germany, establishing the city as the global headquarters for its Watson Internet of Things (IoT) platform. The center will provide startups and industry leaders with a state‑of‑the‑art, controlled environment to design, prototype, and test IoT solutions.
With more than 6,000 customers already running Watson IoT, IBM is reinforcing its ecosystem through recent integrations with Visa, Bosch, and SNCF. The Munich hub will host collaborations with Avnet, BNP Paribas, Capgemini, Tech Mahindra, and telecom giant Vodafone, as well as serve as a focal point for EEBus, the European standards body for connected devices.

Collaboration with IBM teams
IBM’s strategy is to invite partners to co‑locate their research, design, and development teams alongside IBM’s own specialists. “Together we are building a new global IoT innovation ecosystem that will explore how cognitive and IoT technologies will transform industries and our daily lives,” Green added.
Already, BMW is a Watson IoT client, and IBM anticipates that more high‑profile brands will join the hub in the near future.
