Lenovo Unveils ThinkEdge SE30 & SE50, Rugged Edge PCs Designed for AI and Real‑Time Analytics
At Embedded World 2021, Lenovo expanded its ThinkEdge line with the SE30 and SE50, two compact, rugged PCs engineered for enterprise edge data processing, security, and scalability.

Blake Kerrigan, Lenovo’s GM for edge computing, told embedded.com that both models will be available as standard products across all channels within the next 45 days. The SE30 targets mobile, rugged environments, offering an extended temperature range of –20 °C to +60 °C, built‑in 4G LTE (with 5G slated for later this year) and an expandable I/O box. The SE50, meanwhile, delivers higher performance with integrated I/O and supports future accelerators such as Movidius, enabling advanced AI workloads.
Kerrigan highlighted the industry’s pivot to edge AI, noting that “software ecosystems are increasingly pulling hardware forward.” He added that the biggest opportunity lies in machine learning and AI at the edge, which is driving demand in the embedded and industrial PC markets.
A Lenovo survey of IT executives revealed that 59% plan to deploy new edge solutions within six months, and 82% see real‑time data collection and analysis as the primary business impact of edge computing.
Gartner projects that by 2025, 75% of enterprise‑generated data will be processed at the edge, a trend accelerated by the pandemic’s push toward digital transformation across operations and sales.
Edge applications span retail—automated checkouts, dynamic signage, inventory analytics—manufacturing—predictive maintenance and smart camera inspections—and healthcare—remote patient monitoring and device integration. As these use cases grow, the edge becomes more critical and complex.
Lenovo views edge computing as essential infrastructure for intelligent enterprise transformation, offering ThinkEdge devices that can be networked on‑premise or embedded into custom solutions.

The SE30 houses the latest 11th‑Generation Intel Core i5 vPro processor, delivering enhanced compute power and AI acceleration. Designed for industrial environments, it supports temperatures from –20 °C to +60 °C, offers long‑life reliability, and includes advanced security and manageability features. With global 4G LTE support and forthcoming 5G capability, the SE30 is ideal for kiosks, ATMs, automated production lines, and medical device monitoring.

The SE50 offers even greater analytics capacity with an Intel Core i5 or i7 vPro processor and up to 32 GB of memory. It aggregates and analyzes real‑time data from distributed IoT devices, filtering and forwarding insights across the WAN to the cloud or data center. Users can enhance AI performance with silicon and software optimized for the OpenVINO toolkit.
