Arevo (Milpitas, Calif., U.S.) has announced that it will produce 3D-printed carbon fiber unibody frames for a new line of eBikes for Pilot Distribution Group BV (Nuenen, Netherlands), called the EVE9. The announcement was made last week during Eurobike 2019, where Arevo also displayed its 3D-printed thermoplastic carbon fiber bicycle rim.

Arevo’s additive manufacturing (AM) process features patented software algorithms enabling generative design techniques, free-motion robotics for “True 3D” construction, and direct energy deposition for void-free construction optimized for anisotropic composite materials.

This is the second customer that Arevo is producing composite bike frames for. Earlier this year, Arevo announced that it is producing carbon fiber eBike frames for Emery. The company says that these frames are currently in volume production at its Mipiltas, Calif. manufacturing center.

“Arevo’s continuous carbon fiber technology is very impressive as it affords numerous design possibilities and provides excellent strength and durability,” says Arno Pieterse, a representative of Pilot. “The technology truly is a revolution in composites manufacturing and enables us to offer all the high-performance qualities we envisioned for EVE.”

“We thank Pilot for the confidence they have shown in the Arevo DNA technology, which is unique in the additive manufacturing (AM) world,” says Hemant Bheda, co-founder and chairman of Arevo. “We feel we are making a significant impact in the bike industry and see near-term applicability in other areas of green urban mobility, from electric scooters to EVTOLS, or flying cars.”
