DIN 17440 X8CrNiS18-9: Premium Cold‑Worked Austenitic Stainless Steel for Food, Cosmetic, and Chemical Industries
The austenitic free-cutting steel X8CrNiS18-9, mat. no. 1.4305, is used for wire acc. DIN 17440 : 1996-09. The material is both in the delivery condition and in the welded condition not resistant to intercrystalline corrosion. According DIN 17440 : 1985-07 (X 10 CrNiS 18 9) resp. DIN EN 10088-1,-2,-3 : 1995-08 (X8CrNiS18-9) is used for stainless turned parts in the food and milk industry, photochemistry, colour industry, oil industry, cosmetic industry, paper industry, textile industry. Because of the S-content the machinability is better than of common CrNi-steels, but the corrosion resistance is lower.
