WL 3.4354-1 (Grade 3.4354) – T7452: High‑Strength, Corrosion‑Resistant Al‑Zn‑Mg Alloy

Alloy AlZnMgCuAg pertains to unstandardized special alloys of the alloy-type Al-Zn-Mg. It contains in addition to 2,4 % Mg 5,8 % Zn and 1 % Cu what is in combination strength determining. This alloy is artificial aging. It achieves highest strength (F 51) in artificial aged condition at concomitant highest stress corrosion resistance. Favorable stress corrosion resistance can be achieved by Cr- (0,10 to 0,25%) and Ag-(0,25 to 0,40%) addition in a low amount. The alloy is suitable for staticly and dynamicly high loaded construction parts. The alloy AlZnMgCuAg is better full hardenable and the fracture toughness enhances as well if Mg-content is increased to 2,5 % and Zn-content to 6%. The alloy has a high machinability and is on certain conditions weldable. When welding appears a heat-affected zone of low strength. Therefore welding should be avoided (if possible). A favorable corrosion resistance can only be warranted for existance of an appropriate surface protection coat. Corrosion resistance is considerably enhancable by artificial aging. Commercial delivery forms are forged parts, extrusion sections, wires and rods. Tubes only. This alloy is predominantly used for free-form and die forged parts in aircraft construction. Application: In aircraft construction for integral parts and fittings of higher dimension.
