Amodel PPA Supreme – Next‑Generation Polyphthalamide for E‑Mobility and Metal‑Replacement Applications
Anew line of high‑performance polyphthalamide (PPA) compounds, the Amodel PPA Supreme, has been launched by Solvay Specialty Polymers. These materials deliver superior thermal, mechanical, and electrical performance, positioning them as ideal replacements for metal in demanding e‑mobility and structural applications.
From high‑temperature automotive parts in electric drive units—such as e‑motors, power‑electronics housings, and high‑temperature connector enclosures—to electronic and telecommunication devices that demand exceptional heat resistance, Amodel PPA Supreme offers unparalleled durability. In traditional structural roles—clutch cylinders, shift forks, and body‑in‑white components—the compound’s stiffness and toughness enable reliable metal replacement.
Solvay’s Amodel family has a 25‑year legacy of success in under‑hood automotive applications, consistently outperforming nylon 4T and nylon 6T at elevated temperatures. The latest Amodel Supreme achieves a glass‑transition temperature (Tg) of 165 °C (329 °F), the highest in the PPA industry, and provides a coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE) closely matched to metals, simplifying over‑molded part design.
Electrical performance is equally impressive: volume resistivity and dielectric strength remain above 150 °C (302 °F), while the comparative tracking index (CTI) stays stable after prolonged exposure to high temperatures. The formulations also exhibit hydrolytic stability against contemporary electric‑vehicle cooling fluids.
“Solvay is committed to pushing the boundaries of our Amodel PPA technologies to meet the ever‑higher standards set by automotive, electronics, and telecommunications sectors,” said Brian Baleno, head of marketing‑transportation at Solvay Specialty Polymers. “With the launch of Amodel Supreme, we deliver a robust, metal‑alternative solution that meets—and in many cases surpasses—industry expectations.”
The initial launch is globally available in six distinct grades, grouped into standard, structural, and electrical categories to address the diverse needs of e‑mobility and beyond.
