Solvay Enhances Thermoplastic Composite Production with New Greenville Facility

Solvay Specialty Polymers has completed the installation of a new thermoplastic composites (TPC) manufacturing facility at its Greenville, S.C. site. A key driver for the world‑class plant is the growing demand from energy companies, reinforced by increasing aerospace and automotive orders. This milestone marks a pivotal step in Solvay’s drive to industrialise its TPC capabilities.

The new line will produce unidirectional composite tape from high‑performance polymers such as PVDF, PPS and PEEK. Once fully commercialised, the 27,000‑sq‑ft facility will create more than 30 new positions. Solvay’s proprietary technologies position the right product for each application. Its TPC portfolio includes Evolite carbon‑fiber‑reinforced thermoplastics, delivering reliability and lower total cost of ownership for energy and automotive markets, and APC tapes, offering significant weight and cost advantages for aerospace and urban air‑mobility applications.

"The TPC solutions that will be manufactured in our Greenville facility will help our energy, aerospace and automotive customers achieve greater environmental responsibility by making cars and planes lighter, thereby reducing emissions. Our new capacity and differentiated technologies will allow us to expand with our customers as TPCs gain momentum in a growing number of applications and play an important role in the energy transition." – Mike Finelli, President of Solvay’s Growth Platforms

The Greenville plant is part of a series of strategic investments that underline Solvay’s commitment to building the infrastructure required for the expanding TPC market. Recent initiatives include added TPC tape capacity in Anaheim, California; two new R&I centres in Belgium and Alpharetta, Georgia; and Solvay’s membership in the TPRC consortium.
