New High‑Flow Glass‑Reinforced PEI Resins Deliver Superior Strength and Miniaturization for Advanced Electronics

Two cutting‑edge PEI grades—Glass‑Fiber‑Reinforced Superflow Ultem SF2250EPR and SF2270—have joined SABIC’s Ultem lineup. Designed to meet the demands of today’s shrinking electronic components, these resins offer exceptional flow characteristics that enable complete mold filling and effortless release, even in the tiniest, high‑precision parts such as burn‑in test sockets (BiTS) and ultra‑thin connectors.

Compared with traditional glass‑fiber‑reinforced liquid crystal polymers (LCPs) and polyether sulfone (PES) resins, the Superflow series delivers markedly higher weld‑line strength and overall mechanical performance. They also provide up to 20 % greater tensile strength and modulus, 9 % lower density, and significantly reduced moisture absorption—benefits that can replace high‑flow glass‑fiber‑reinforced PES materials without requiring tool redesign.

Within the Ultem family, the Superflow line achieves flow lengths up to five times that of standard glass‑fiber‑reinforced resins. This high‑flow capability translates into fewer gates, lower breakage rates, and higher production yields. Additional advantages include lower melt temperatures that cut energy use, minimized outgassing, and faster cycle times that boost overall productivity.
