2018 in Review: Milestones, Innovation, and Customer Success
As 2018 comes to a close, we pause to celebrate a year of growth and innovation. From tripling our team size to launching the industry‑first H13 Tool Steel, our milestones reflect the dedication of our engineers, partners, and most importantly, our customers. We were featured in Forbes’ “Next Billion‑Dollar Startups” list and placed #10 on Deloitte’s Fastest 500, underscoring our rapid growth and industry impact. In April, we began shipping the Metal X printer, the world’s first to reliably print 17‑4 PH stainless steel. By November, over 100 Metal X units were operating worldwide, empowering companies such as Scotland‑based Angus 3D to cut waste, Stanley Black & Decker to save 48 % in manufacturing costs, and Dixon Valve to fabricate end‑of‑arm tooling directly from metal. Our printers have shipped to more than 50 countries, expanding global access to metal 3D printing. The launch of the H13 Tool Steel line in November, coupled with a pipeline of new metal materials, is expanding the range of applications for our printers. Our customers are already printing press‑brake punches in South Carolina, soft jaws in Canada, fully printed robotic arms in Las Vegas, and high‑precision grippers in Sweden – just to name a few. We introduced the “Customer Part of the Month” program in November, inviting users to showcase their most impressive prints. We were thrilled to award Hunter College High School the inaugural winner, a testament to the ingenuity that our community brings to the table. Our fifth anniversary in June was marked by a celebratory event in Boston’s Seaport district, where we heard firsthand how Markforged technology is reshaping production workflows. Since then, we’ve participated in key industry events such as TCT in Germany and IMTS in Chicago, meeting innovators who push the boundaries of 3D‑printed metal parts. Looking ahead, we’re set to showcase new printers and demo parts at CES Las Vegas in January. In the coming months, we’ll introduce additional materials, opening fresh possibilities for rapid prototyping, tooling, and end‑use production. Thank you to our customers for making 2018 remarkable – here’s to an even stronger 2019. Request a free sample part to test the strength of our prints.Markforged users continue to lead the way
