2018 IMTS Odyssey – Markforged Showcases Carbon‑Fiber & Metal 3D Printing Breakthroughs
In September 2018, Markforged brought its next‑generation 3D printers to the International Manufacturing Trade Show (IMTS) in Chicago, where 130,000 industry professionals converged. Almost 2,000 visitors stopped by the Markforged booth to explore our printers and demo parts, and to ask questions about how our technology is reshaping manufacturing worldwide.

Our booth featured the Mark Two, the X7 Industrial Series, and the Metal X printer. Markforged’s VP of Product, Jon Reilly, engaged with leading media outlets such as All3DP and 3D Printing Industry, sharing insights into our evolving product line.
New Metal Materials & Demo Parts
Metal X printers are now capable of fabricating 17‑4 Stainless Steel components. At IMTS, we showcased upcoming metal alloys—including H13 Tool Steel, 316L Stainless Steel, Inconel 625, Titanium 64, and A2 Tool Steel—in the form of functional impellers. Visitors could handle the impellers, feel their density, and consult with our application engineers for detailed queries.
We also unveiled a press‑brake demo part developed by Centerline Engineered Solutions. Read more about the part in this blog post.
Speaker Session by Application Engineer Travis Lathrop
Travis Lathrop delivered a session at IMTS on how 3D printing is redefining the manufacturing landscape. A blog post on the topic will be published in the coming days.

Customer Interviews
Beyond demonstrations, we seized the opportunity to interview satisfied customers who shared how Markforged printers have streamlined their operations and freed engineers to focus on revenue‑generating parts. Their stories underscore the tangible business value our technology delivers.
