Universal Robots Unveils New Cobots Accessories at Automate 2019
At Automate 2019 in Chicago, Universal Robots showcased the next generation of accessories for its UR collaborative robots (cobots). These additions belong to the UR+ ecosystem, a curated collection of pre‑approved, high‑quality add‑ons that expand a cobot’s capabilities while guaranteeing compatibility and safety.
One highlight is the LiftKit from SKF Motion Technologies. The kit introduces a seventh axis, allowing the UR articulated arm to move vertically through a telescoping pillar. It is equipped with its own controller and a dedicated UR+ software plugin, giving users instant, precise vertical positioning without sacrificing the cobot’s inherent flexibility.
Another innovation is the Dynabrade robotic sanders, offered as a complete UR+ kit. The set includes vacuum‑ready pneumatic sanders, a secure robot mount, and a solenoid module that triggers the sanders directly from the robot’s controller. According to Universal Robots, this demonstrates the cobot’s often‑underestimated ability to automate secondary processes such as sanding, polishing or surface finishing.
