OnRobot Unveils Plug‑and‑Play Screwdriver for Cobots

OnRobot, a Danish manufacturer with a U.S. office in Dallas, has introduced a versatile screwdriver that can be rapidly mounted and reconfigured for a variety of cobot applications.

Designed to replace repetitive, ergonomically taxing, and often inconsistent manual screwdriving, the new tool empowers manufacturers to automate tasks that previously required manual intervention or complex programming.

To program the screwdriver, users simply enter the desired screw length and torque into the control interface embedded in any leading robot’s teach pendant. Leveraging precise torque control and an integrated axis, the device calculates the optimal speed and force, delivering consistent, accurate fastening.

The system also detects mismatched screw lengths, reducing scrap and enhancing quality.

Smart features include embedded torque and axis control.

The screwdriver’s “z‑axis” allows screws to be retracted inside the tool and driven automatically once the robot arm moves into position. This cuts down on robot arm movement and additional programming. Screws up to 35 mm in length are fully retracted inside the screwdriver until the process is safely initiated, making it human‑friendly in collaborative environments.

The screwdriver can handle a wide range of screw sizes and lengths, from M1.6 to M6, and up to 50 mm in length. Simplified programming and an interchangeable bit system allow the tool to switch to a different screw size, length, or product line in minutes.

Key features:

The screwdriver is compatible with OnRobot’s One System Solution platform, which provides a unified mechanical and electrical interface between leading robot arms and any OnRobot product. The platform has recently expanded to include ABB Robotics and Hanwha Precision Machinery, enabling users of those robots to benefit from seamless integration and faster ROI.
