Nissei Secures Majority Control of Italy’s Negri Bossi Group, Expanding EU Injection Molding Reach

Nissei Plastic Industrial Co., a leading Japanese manufacturer of injection‑molding machines, has announced a strategic acquisition of a 75% stake in Italy’s Negri Bossi Group, a well‑established European player that also owns the robot‑automation firm Sytrama. The deal, confirmed in late November after months of speculation, positions Nissei to strengthen its presence in the EU and gain access to Negri Bossi’s portfolio of ultra‑large injection‑molding machines—capabilities that are not currently part of Nissei’s product line.

Under the terms of the agreement, Nissei will complete the purchase of the remaining 25% of shares in the coming years, gradually bringing the entire group under its umbrella. The collaboration will enable Nissei to market its own machines through Negri Bossi’s established distribution network across Europe, while also developing future models that combine Italian design sensibilities with Japanese engineering excellence.

Additional benefits include streamlined supply chains, shorter delivery times, and potential price reductions for customers. By leveraging Nissei’s production facilities, Negri Bossi can reduce its heavy reliance on outsourcing, thereby improving manufacturing efficiency.

Despite a 13% decline in sales between fiscal years 2016 and 2018, Negri Bossi reported a 31% increase in net income during the same period, underscoring the resilience and profitability of the business unit that Nissei has now acquired.
