Teradyne Invests $36M to Build Odense Cobots Hub for MiR and Universal Robots
Teradyne, the Boston‑based automation giant, has secured a 334,000‑square‑foot site in Odense, Denmark, and will pour $36 million into a state‑of‑the‑art “cobot hub” that will house its two leading Danish robotics brands, MiR and Universal Robots (UR).
Both MiR and UR currently manufacture all of their collaborative robots in Denmark, employing 160 and 450 people, respectively. The new hub will consolidate production for the two companies, enabling a substantial increase in output capacity. While exact numbers are still being finalized, the facility is expected to support twice the staffing levels of the current Odense headquarters.
The plan is to relocate all manufacturing to UR’s existing headquarters, which will become part of the new hub. The acquired buildings will host all non‑manufacturing functions, including R&D labs, administrative and sales offices, engineering workshops, extensive training and meeting rooms, and dedicated showrooms for MiR and UR.
Since acquiring UR in 2015 and MiR in 2018, Teradyne has invested over $500 million in the two Danish companies. MiR delivers autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for industrial use, while UR supplies collaborative robots that serve a range of manufacturing sectors, including plastics.
MiR and Universal Robots will merge operations in Denmark into the new cobot hub in Odense.
