Bosch IoT Suite Drives Connectivity Across Automobiles, Industrial Equipment, and Everyday Devices

An increasing number of enterprises are adopting Bosch’s open IoT platform.

What is the Bosch IoT Suite?

Bosch IoT Suite delivers a fully integrated, cloud‑ready software stack that empowers customers and partners to design, deploy, and secure IoT applications at scale.

From connected cars to smart baby buggies, the Bosch IoT Suite is the backbone that powers connectivity across the retail, energy, building, manufacturing, consumer goods, agriculture, and mobility sectors. With more than 250 joint projects completed under Bosch.IO, the subsidiary showcases how the platform accelerates the creation of scalable, secure IoT solutions using the cloud and the open‑source Bosch IoT Suite.

Versatile and Proven

In the automotive sector, the Bosch IoT Suite is the core enabler of Daimler’s firmware‑over‑the‑air (FOTA) service. Today, roughly four million vehicle owners receive secure infotainment and other software updates via cellular networks, eliminating the need for dealer visits.

For Swedish stroller maker Emmaljunga, the platform underpins eStroller’s advanced safety and comfort features—powered push, automatic brake assist, and a companion smartphone app that offers real‑time alerts and remote monitoring.

Energy provider EWE leverages the suite to efficiently process power‑consumption data, enabling value‑added services such as detailed usage analytics that help homeowners reduce energy costs.

“Bosch.IO projects epitomize the efficient development of scalable and secure IoT solutions using the cloud and the open‑source‑based Bosch IoT Suite.”

– Stefan Ferber, Co‑CEO & CTO, Bosch.IO GmbH

The Bosch IoT Suite is not only the platform behind Daimler, Emmaljunga, and EWE, but also the central software foundation for all Bosch IoT offerings. For instance, it connects Bosch Building Technologies’ smart cameras to the cloud and existing backends, simplifying lifecycle management and remote firmware updates.

In manufacturing, Bosch Rexroth used the suite to create BODAS Connect, a modular solution that offers end‑to‑end connectivity for mobile machinery. The platform’s open, scalable architecture delivers machine‑specific data and enables remote software updates without on‑site service teams. Reform, a manufacturer of municipal and agricultural vehicles, adopted BODAS Connect to streamline troubleshooting of mobile equipment.

Focus on Edge Computing and AI

To date, the Bosch IoT Suite has linked more than ten million sensors, devices, gateways, and machines with users and enterprise systems. As AI becomes integral to IoT, the platform is evolving to deliver smarter, faster, and more efficient services.

Edge devices—connected units that process data locally—are now supported by the suite, reducing cloud traffic and enabling near‑real‑time responses. According to Bosch.IO, over 33,000 edge devices are compatible with the platform and connect via a wide range of protocols.

Looking ahead, Bosch.IO plans to introduce pre‑configured service packages that combine key Bosch IoT Suite modules, such as the Bosch IoT Hub. This scalable service connects edge devices through a gateway and supports both standard and custom protocols, empowering customers to build fully integrated IoT applications.

“Over the medium term, we expect the market for IoT platforms to consolidate. Of the estimated three to five platforms that will prevail, one will be open‑source‑based.”

Rated Positively by Analysts

The Bosch IoT Suite’s foundation in open‑source software—developed by Bosch and partners in the Eclipse IoT working group—offers unmatched flexibility. In its latest assessment, PAC, the leading independent European IT research firm, rated the platform as best‑in‑class among all open‑source IoT solutions.

“We are delighted with this excellent rating for the Bosch IoT Suite,” said Ferber. “Over the medium term, we expect the market for IoT platforms to consolidate. Of the estimated three to five platforms that will prevail, one will be open‑source‑based.”
