Amplify the Maintenance Crisis Message: Download Blues & Reggae Versions of the ‘Maintenance Crisis Song’

To raise global awareness about the looming Maintenance Crisis, Joel Leonard—known in industry circles as the Maintenance Evangelist—partnered with renowned Piedmont Blues artists Terry VunCannon and Steve Cain of 2 CAN. Together, they produced authentic blues and reggae renditions of Leonard’s 2002 anthem, “The Maintenance Crisis Song.”

Leonard first penned the original track after attending an engineering conference in Nashville, where he heard numerous executives from major corporations lament the waning interest among new generations to pursue careers in facilities engineering. Witnessing candidates brave harsh 30‑degree conditions to queue for “American Idol” only reinforced his resolve to spotlight the issue.

“With the impending retirements of the baby boomer generation, the aging of current equipment, and the rapid sophistication of new technology, a perfect maintenance storm is brewing,” Leonard explains. He warns that without widespread awareness, we risk preventable disasters—“like the busted levees of New Orleans.”

To broaden the song’s reach, Leonard has commissioned diverse reinterpretations across musical styles—including funk, hip‑hop, opera, and now soulful blues and inspiring reggae—each designed to resonate with a wider audience. His ambitious goal is to compile these versions into the upcoming album “Pipe Dreaming: Fix It or They Will Leave” and submit it for a Grammy Award.
