NSF-ISR Earns ANAB Accreditation for Aerospace Maintenance Quality Audits

Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the safety of aircraft, passengers, and crew. With airlines increasingly relying on outsourced suppliers for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), evaluating the quality management systems of these contractors has never been more critical.

NSF International Strategic Registrations (NSF-ISR), a subsidiary of NSF International—a globally respected developer and certifier of health and safety standards—has achieved accreditation from the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). This accreditation authorizes NSF-ISR to audit and register aircraft maintenance organizations’ quality management systems (QMS) in accordance with AS9110, the aerospace-specific standard for maintenance organizations.

AS9110 was developed by SAE International in response to industry concerns over the oversight capabilities of contracted suppliers. The standard delineates the QMS requirements necessary for the proper maintenance of commercial, private, and military aircraft, and it complements contractual agreements, regulatory mandates, and applicable law. A registration under AS9110 demonstrates that an organization’s QMS consistently satisfies both customer and regulatory expectations.

AS9110 builds on the internationally recognized ISO 9001:2000 framework—part of the ISO 9000 family of quality management standards that are implemented in 161 countries worldwide. This lineage underscores the rigorous quality criteria that NSF-ISR applies in its audits.
