UT Launches Reliability & Maintainability Center, Refocusing on Reliability Excellence

The University of Tennessee’s Maintenance and Reliability Center has been renamed the Reliability & Maintainability Center (RMC) to underscore its commitment to reliability as the core goal for member companies.

"While maintenance remains a vital enabler, it is not the sole objective," said RMC Director Tom Byerley. "Our new name reflects a sharpened focus on reliability without altering our proven programs or methodologies. We will continue to integrate maintenance and reliability in education, research, and industry collaboration, but our primary mission is to help members achieve higher reliability standards."

Founded in 1996 within the College of Engineering, the RMC began with 12 founding companies. Today, it boasts over 30 industry partners, offering a comprehensive suite of education, research, and knowledge‑sharing initiatives that deliver exceptional value to students, faculty, and the industrial community.
