Avular Unveils Modular Hardware and Software Platform at CES 2022
Avular, a Dutch mobile‑robotics pioneer, will showcase its new modular hardware and software suite, “The Essentials,” at CES 2022. The platform is engineered to give entrepreneurs and engineers a plug‑and‑play foundation for core robotic functions, promising up to 50% faster time‑to‑market and cost reductions.
“The Essentials” delivers the essential building blocks that form a robot’s brain: sensor data ingestion, motor control, navigation, positioning, and safety systems for dynamic environments. Connectivity options—Wi‑Fi, 5G modems—enable seamless cloud integration, while integrated safety modules safeguard movement in complex settings. By abstracting these core challenges, developers can focus on their unique value proposition, whether retrofitting an existing machine or building a robot from scratch.
Avular’s goal is to democratise mobile robotics. The modular solution supports rapid prototyping, industrialisation, and mass production alike, making advanced robotics accessible to a broad spectrum of users.
The hardware backbone of the modules is built around Avular’s “Prime” modules, featuring an i.MXRT1061 crossover MCU with an ARM Cortex‑M7 core running at 600 MHz. With 1 MB SRAM, 4 MB flash, and Avular’s proprietary ArtOs operating system, the Prime modules deliver FPGA‑like performance. They support a wide array of I/O interfaces and can be expanded with additional sensors, power supplies, or electronic modules simply by adding stackable components. Internal communication occurs over Avular’s Echo bus, ensuring reliable, high‑speed data transfer between modules.

Development and optimisation are handled through Cerebra Studio, Avular’s intuitive PC interface. The graphical environment supports both prototype testing and OEM production workflows, eliminating the need for a MATLAB license. Users can program, monitor, and fine‑tune parameters live, streamlining the entire design cycle.
Above the Essentials lies Avular’s “Pioneers” robot platform, a modular chassis that incorporates the Essentials modules. This platform enables customers to rapidly prototype driving and flying robots tailored to their business needs, without investing in custom physical robot development. The result is a flexible, scalable solution that accelerates proof‑of‑concept and commercial deployment.
