ept Launches 16 Gbps Colibri High‑Speed Connectors for Advanced Applications
ept’s Colibri high‑speed connector line now includes 16 Gbps and 10 Gbps options, engineered to meet the stringent bandwidth demands of USB 3.1 Gen2, PCI Express 4.0, and other next‑generation data‑transfer protocols. The compact 0.5‑mm pitch design delivers reliable performance in tight form factors.
Both variants support board‑to‑board distances of 5 mm or 8 mm. Available pin counts span 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, and 220, with a 440‑pin version assembled from two 220‑pin plugs or receptacles secured by a soldering frame. The 16 Gbps line retains the same layout and mating compatibility as the standard Colibri connector.
These connectors are ideal for mezzanine board‑to‑board systems and COM Express platforms, and they already find use across industrial automation, kiosk and POS systems, medical and measurement technologies, consumer electronics, gaming, transportation, and building automation.
To ensure pristine signal integrity at 16 Gbps, ept refined the contact design across the entire Colibri series. Samples and S‑parameters for up to 16 Gbps are available to interested parties at Embedded World 2019 in Nuremberg. The Colibri Plug 16+ will ship beginning March.
