Bulgin Launches Rugged Smart Connector for Extreme Environments

Bulgin, a global leader in rugged connectors, has introduced a new smart connector that combines ruggedness with intelligent features. Designed to operate in extreme temperatures, dust, water, and chemical exposure, the miniature connector delivers reliable performance in the toughest conditions.

The system‑level intelligence simplifies device pairing, provides real‑time connection status, and embeds electronic serialization. These capabilities help designers reduce space, eliminate manual labeling, detect counterfeit components, and accelerate time‑to‑market.

First developed in 2017 as a custom solution for agricultural sensors, the smart connector was subsequently released as an off‑the‑shelf product for medical, industrial, IoT, and farming applications.

The sealed connector houses a 7 × 5 mm PCB that contains an EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read‑only memory). The EEPROM is securely positioned beneath the overmould of Bulgin’s 400 Series miniature connector, providing decades‑long data integrity for calibration, security codes, and application‑specific settings.
