Microchip Launches Rapid‑Connect PIC MCU Board for Seamless Google Cloud IoT Integration

From coffee makers to irrigation systems, PIC microcontrollers power millions of embedded devices. Yet, migrating these PIC MCU‑based solutions to the cloud has historically required juggling complex communication protocols, security hardening, and hardware compatibility challenges. Microchip’s new IoT rapid‑development board eliminates those hurdles, letting designers integrate Google Cloud IoT Core in minutes.

The board pairs a low‑power PIC MCU with a CryptoAuthentication secure‑element IC and a fully certified Wi‑Fi network controller. Together they provide a turnkey, secure connection path that removes the need for heavyweight software stacks or real‑time operating systems, cutting development time, cost and potential security gaps.

Once connected, Google Cloud IoT Core delivers powerful data ingestion, real‑time analytics, and global device management. Designers can then use those insights to refine product performance and operational efficiency.

Aligned with Microchip’s expanded partnership with Google Cloud, the PIC‑IoT WG Development Board offers a free online portal for cloud connectivity. Developers can then employ Microchip’s MPLAB Code Configurator to rapidly prototype, debug, and customize applications—all within the familiar MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment.

The board complements Microchip’s AVR‑IoT WG board, giving engineers flexibility to choose their preferred MCU architecture while accessing a common cloud platform. It supports more than 450 MikroElektronika Click boards, expanding sensor and actuator options with minimal effort.
