Contrinex 2020: Cloud-Ready Sensors & Bluetooth Light Curtains for Safety

IO-Link SSP 3.3 and Bluetooth Low Energy have become industry benchmarks for sensor-level data exchange. At this year’s SPS, Contrinex showcased a suite of new devices that seamlessly integrate these standards, with a particular emphasis on data-centric performance. Among the highlights are ceramic-coated inductive sensors designed for demanding welding environments.

Contrinex’s new cloud-ready smart sensors deliver real-time monitoring right at the core of any application. With a single IO-Link parameter configuration, users can instantly stream and visualize sensor data. The devices also include a range of predictive-maintenance capabilities, all built on the Smart Sensor Profile IO-Link SSP 3.3 for straightforward integration. In SIO mode, these inductive sensors set a new standard for binary applications: by designating an IO pin as input, other signals can trigger sensor teach-in, enable synchronization across multiple units, log histogram data, and perform basic AND/OR logic. Availability is slated for 2020.

The updated YBES light curtains feature a Bluetooth-BLE interface that supports wireless remote configuration and delivers live status and diagnostic information straight to a smartphone. Beyond the added functionality - such as EDM, restart interlock, and beam coding - this wireless approach simplifies installation and cuts costs by eliminating the need for external safety relays. Certified for the most stringent safety standards (Type 4, Category 4, PL e, SIL 3), the curtains provide blind-zone-free coverage and an integrated alignment system for precise deployment.

Contrinex’s RFID read/write modules now launch a V1.1 version that incorporates new C44 (40 x 40 mm) units rated IP68/IP69K. Featuring dual operating modes—including a selectable "Automatic" mode—these modules are engineered for simplicity, slashing programming effort, easing troubleshooting, and enabling predictive-maintenance workflows. In SIO mode, two configurable outputs can be routed to a variety of signal sources. Additional capabilities such as transponder history, alarm flags, password protection, and a Scan UID function further enhance operational reliability.

The Contrinex Weld-Immune line has expanded to include ceramic-coated inductive sensors. These units combine superior immunity to welding-induced magnetic fields, mechanical shock resistance, and a durable spatter-resistant finish that extends sensor life, simplifies cleaning, and minimizes machine downtime. They are scheduled for launch in early 2020.
