Connext DDS Users Group in Chengdu: Real Feedback Drives Our Roadmap

On November 14, RTI attended the Connext DDS Users Group meeting in Chengdu, China. Although the session was conducted almost entirely in Mandarin, a skilled translator provided us with clear coverage of about 75% of the content. The event, hosted by Vision Microsystems – RTI’s Chinese distributor – attracted 70 participants representing more than 30 active Connext DDS projects.

During the meeting, RTI’s VP of Sales, Edwin, and I shared our involvement in the Industrial Internet of Things and outlined the technical roadmap for the upcoming Connext 5.2 release, slated for early 2015. The presentation highlighted how DDS can streamline integration and boost performance in complex, distributed systems.

Several seasoned DDS developers also spoke, explaining why they chose DDS, the challenges they addressed, and the situations where DDS did not fit. Their candid feedback was invaluable; it underscored that while DDS excels in many scenarios—particularly when superior performance, scalability, and reduced application code are required—it is not a one‑size‑fits‑all solution for every networking problem.

The testimonials reinforced the real‑world impact of Connext DDS and validated our commitment to solving complex integration challenges with a robust, commercial‑grade product. We remain focused on delivering solutions that would otherwise demand significant DIY effort.
