RTI Perftest 2.4 Released: Enhanced Performance Testing for Connext DDS

RTI Perftest 2.4 Released: Enhanced Performance Testing for Connext DDS

We’re excited to introduce RTI Perftest 2.4, the latest evolution of our performance‑testing toolkit for RTI Connext DDS. This update delivers a smoother, more informative out‑of‑the‑box experience, empowering users to understand and optimize their test scenarios with greater confidence.

Key enhancements include:

1. Transparent test metadata. Before results roll in, the tool now prints a concise summary of the configuration: Perftest and Connext DDS versions, test type (latency or throughput), sample cadence, reliability settings, and all other relevant parameters. Example output:

$> perftest_cpp -pub -noPrint -domain 27 -latencyCount 100000 -scan 32:64:256:1024:8192:32768:63000 -exec 30 -nic lo0
RTI Perftest 2.3.2 (RTI Connext DDS 5.3.0)

   Mode: THROUGHPUT TEST
      (Use "-latencyTest" for Latency Mode)

   Perftest Configuration:
      Reliability: Reliable
      Keyed: No
      Publisher ID: 0
Latency count: 1 latency sample every 100000 samples
      Data Size: 32, 64, 256, 1024, 8192, 32768, 63000
Batching: 8192 Bytes (Use "-batchSize 0" to disable batching)
      Publication Rate: Unlimited (Not set)
      Execution time: 30 seconds
      Receive using: Listeners
      Domain: 27
      Dynamic Data: No
      Asynchronous Publishing: No
      XML File: perftest_qos_profiles.xml

   Transport Configuration:
Kind: UDPv4 & SHMEM (taken from QoS XML file)
      Use Multicast: False

2. Intelligent default settings. Perftest now selects the optimal transport and batching strategy for each test automatically—switching from pure UDPv4 to a combined UDPv4/Shared Memory setup for throughput scenarios, and enabling batching for small payloads when appropriate.

3. Reduced memory footprint. The new release cuts memory usage substantially while preserving peak performance, making it easier to run large‑scale experiments on modest hardware.

Additional improvements include bug fixes and minor refinements that streamline compilation and execution.
