Honeywell & SKF Partner on IIoT Pilot to Boost Industrial Efficiency

Honeywell Process Solutions and SKF have launched a joint pilot project aimed at developing Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions. The initiative will run at a copper mine in Latin America and seeks to establish a digital standard that enhances machine efficiency, reliability, and competitiveness for industrial customers.

"Leveraging the IIoT gives manufacturers real‑time access to operational data from an ever‑growing dataset across not just one site or plant, but across an entire enterprise," said Shree Dandekar, Vice President and General Manager for Honeywell Connected Plant. "By creating an ecosystem of software and hardware manufacturers with unmatched domain expertise, we can better understand the risks and demands on operating units and ultimately deliver superior outcomes for our customers."

As part of the collaboration, SKF’s expertise in bearings, lubrication, and condition monitoring will complement Honeywell’s strengths in data consolidation and software development. The project’s ambition is to jointly develop a user‑friendly digital ecosystem that captures and analyzes vast amounts of data from plant machinery. Armed with this analysis, operators will be empowered to identify strategies that reduce or even eliminate manufacturing inefficiencies and unplanned downtime.

"The number of potential data collection points in a modern factory is increasing exponentially, but this data will only generate value for operators if it is analyzed and acted upon to improve a machine’s performance and profitability," said Alrik Danielson, SKF President and CEO. "Our collaboration with Honeywell will make this possible."
