Nimbus 195: Russia’s Fully Enclosed Carbon‑Fiber Monocoque Racing Drone

While most racing drones rely on flat carbon‑fiber sheets for lightness and strength, Russian engineers have taken the material to a new level. Their Nimbus 195 features a fully enclosed, carbon‑fiber monocoque shell that houses all electronics, providing unprecedented protection and aerodynamics.

The two‑piece mold delivers superior structural integrity and weather resistance. Because the frame encloses the entire electronics, it shields sensitive components from impact, wind, rain, and dust.

Crafted from a precision‑molded shell, the Nimbus utilizes layers of carbon fiber ranging from 1 mm to 4 mm—equivalent to 4–16 layers—strategically oriented to balance stiffness and weight. At just 330 g, it outperforms rivals: the Vendetta (410 g) and Vortex (350 g).

Crash‑test footage demonstrates the frame’s resilience. In a series of trials, the prototype slammed into a brick wall, a tree, a passing car, a body of water, and a snowy field—yet each time it returned to flight without damage.

The Nimbus 195 is currently live on Indiegogo, with the campaign ending in three days. To date, the project has reached 70 % of its $30,000 target.
