DIN 1725-1 Grade 3.4335 T8 – High‑Strength AlZn4.5Mg1 Alloy for Welded Structures

The alloy AlZn4,5Mg1 is a cold and hot hardenable aluminum alloy of middle strength, which was developed particularly for welded structures. It reached after hot ageing the strength grade F 35 and is suitable thereby for statically loaded constructions. The dominating advantages of these alloy for welded structures is that this alloy hardens after welding in the heat influence zone automatically and is in hot-hardened state more corrosion resistant than cold-hardened. So it is advantageously to perform a warm ageing after welding when a corrosive load of welded construction units can be expected Heat treatment for hardening: solution annealing: 460 to 485 °C, quenching on air cold ageing: min. 90 d at ambient temperature hot ageing: 8 to 12 h at 90 to 100 °C and 16 to 24 h at 140 to 160 °C. (two stages treatment) The cold-hardened material condition, which adjusts itself after at least 90 days, can also to be reached by quenching after the stamp, i.e. without a separate solution annealing preceded the cold ageing. Application: In mechanical engineering (including building of forms) for machine body, housing, roller pipes, machine tables (profiles), for devices (baseplates, head and stamp retaining plates) as well as guide plates and tools, turned parts (hydraulic/pneumatics). In the apparatus and tank construction for tanks within the very low-temperature range, in the building of rail-mounted vehicles for car boxes, equipment and axle box case, in the conveying engineering for carrying constructions. In automobile construction for commercial motor vehicle superstructures, tank and silo trucks, dump truck hollows, buses, bumpers and safety-related parts, in shipbuilding for sail masts and radar equipment and/or mechanisms as well as application in the aircraft construction.
