EconCore Showcases Advanced Lightweight Honeycomb Technology at K 2019
Belgium‑based EconCore, a global leader in thermoplastic honeycomb solutions, will unveil its latest lightweight materials at K 2019. The company’s patented ThermHex technology—already licensed to top players in automotive, packaging, and construction—delivers high‑speed, high‑efficiency production of honeycomb cores from a broad spectrum of thermoplastics. By laminating these cores in‑line with a variety of skin materials—PP, other thermoplastics, composites, and metals—EconCore creates panels that combine exceptional rigidity, strength, and impact resistance with a superior strength‑to‑weight ratio.
Across all applications, the ThermHex process promises a rapid return on investment compared to conventional solid polymer sheets or cored sandwich panels. In Germany, the company’s subsidiary ThermHex Waben GmbH is pushing the commercialization of Organosandwich materials—continuous glass‑fiber‑reinforced polymer skins bonded over PP honeycomb cores within the same in‑line process. These sandwich panels are ideal for automotive uses such as trunk floors, underbody panels, and rear parcel shelves.
Organosandwich panels can be short‑cycle thermoformed and functionalized through injection molding, enabling direct insertion of components and tailored features during manufacturing.
