SI Group Expands Weston 705 Production to China, Enhancing Global Supply Chain

SI Group, headquartered in Schenectady, NY, announced at Chinaplas 2021 that it will add a production facility in China for its proprietary Weston 705 antioxidant. Production is slated to commence in May, enhancing supply security for its global customers and accelerating market penetration across China and the broader Asia Pacific region with reduced lead times and streamlined logistics. Senior VP of Commercial, Joey Gullion, and VP of Plastics Solutions, Chuck Reardon, highlighted the strategic significance in a virtual press event.

Over the past five years, SI Group has tripled capacity for this modern, non‑ylphenol‑free liquid phosphite antioxidant, which delivers regulatory compliance worldwide and a superior performance profile compared to legacy solutions. The expansion at the Morgantown, WV site was driven by strong demand for Weston 705, which has received extensive regulatory approvals for food‑packaging applications, enabling polyolefin film and rigid format processors to meet food safety standards without using nonylphenol chemistry.

Weston 705 is an industrially proven drop‑in replacement for TNPP in most applications, and it can be deployed across a broad range of polyolefins and other plastics such as ABS, PVC, and elastomers—including thermoplastic versions—that require stabilization.

For polyethylene producers and compounders, Weston 705 delivers markedly improved control of gel and plate‑out formation compared with conventional solid phosphite antioxidants. It also offers significantly enhanced gas‑fading resistance, ensuring long‑term performance.

The new manufacturing location in China will be equipped to produce Weston 705 in multiple packaging formats tailored to customer needs.

SI Group was established in October 2018 when New York City–based private investment firm SK Capital acquired global additives and intermediate manufacturer SI Group, Inc., and merged it with Addivant USA, Danbury, CT—a portfolio company of SK Capital since 2013.
