Specialty PC-Based Copolymer Delivers Superior Flame Retardancy for Ultra‑Thin Smartphone Battery Covers
A specialty PC‑based copolymer has been selected by Realme for the battery enclosure of its C25 smartphone, achieving UL 94 V0 flame retardancy at just 0.6 mm and meeting the IEC 62368‑1 safety standard for consumer electronics.
SABIC’s LNP Elcres EXL 7414 PC copolymer offers excellent flow for thin‑wall injection molding, superior ductility at low temperatures, and chemical resistance suitable for UV‑cured paint finishes. Its non‑chlorinated, non‑brominated flame‑retardant formulation ensures compliance without compromising performance.
The Realme C25 features a 6000 mAh lithium‑ion battery that requires robust containment. By using an injection‑molded cover made from LNP Elcres EXL 7414, Realme delivers a battery enclosure that is both ultra‑thin (≈9.6 mm) and lightweight (≈209 g), aligning with the industry’s push toward slimmer devices.
In addition to safety, the copolymer’s excellent flowability translates to shorter cycle times and higher throughput compared to standard PC, enabling faster production of thin‑wall parts.
With low‑temperature ductility down to –40 °C, the material resists damage from drops, while its good chemical resistance allows for secondary painting. The resin is available worldwide in a wide range of opaque colors.
