Wittmann Battenfeld Unveils Advanced High‑Speed Robots at K 2019
At the October K 2019 show in Düsseldorf, Wittmann Battenfeld showcased a brand‑new lineup of high‑speed robots, expanding its WX servo series and introducing the cost‑effective Primus line. The Sonic high‑speed line, previously limited to basic specs, debuted in three models—131, 142, and 143—offering operators more flexibility from the outset.
The WX138, the latest addition to the WX family, features a fundamentally new design: a rigid X‑axis ranging from 620 mm to 920 mm, powered by an internal belt that keeps the drive hidden within the axis profile. This innovation cuts moving loads by 30%, while the Z‑axis receives a similar treatment, enhancing overall efficiency. The robot’s vertical stroke spans 800 mm to 1,200 mm, making it suitable for presses up to 300 metric tons. With a payload capacity of 12 kg (26.4 lb), the WX138 delivers a 50% increase in rigidity along the main demolding stroke and a 100% boost along the Z‑axis.
Wittmann also broadened its Primus servo robots, targeting pick‑and‑place tasks on larger injection machines. The new Primus 48/48T models can handle presses up to 900 m.t., doubling the capacity of the older Primus 26/26T. Horizontal strokes reach 6 m, allowing multiple pallet bays to sit beside the press or parts to be deposited behind the clamp. Demolding strokes extend up to 1,200 mm, while the telescoping 48T model offers a vertical stroke of 1,600 mm to 2,000 mm. Both variants carry a payload of 20 kg (44 lb), and their vertical tube rigidity matches that of the WX series. Vacuum and air hoses are neatly concealed inside the arm.
For low‑overhead applications, the new Primus 16T with a telescoping arm provides a vertical stroke of 800 mm to 1,000 mm and a 5 kg (11 lb) payload, identical to the earlier Primus 16 but with enhanced reach.
