Alaska Airlines Receives FAA Diamond Award for Maintenance Excellence
On April 25, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) honored Alaska Airlines with a Diamond Award, including a Special Recognition distinction, for its outstanding training program for maintenance technicians.
This marks the airline’s fifth consecutive Diamond Award and its second award with Special Recognition. Alaska’s Aviation Maintenance Technician Awards program has achieved a remarkable 100 % participation rate among eligible employees.
“This year’s Diamond Award is a special honor for our Maintenance and Engineering Division and our employees’ technical expertise,” said Fred Mohr, Alaska Airlines’ Vice President of Maintenance and Engineering. “The award reflects our deep commitment to our people and to maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence.”
During the ceremony held at Alaska Airlines’ Seattle hangar, 758 aircraft technicians and managers received Aviation Maintenance Technician Awards. Together, they completed 56,665 hours of initial and recurrent training in 2005.
Lead Line Aircraft Technician Thomas Thomson was presented with an individual Diamond Award for completing more than 100 hours of training that year.
The FAA also presented maintenance inspector Tada Yotsuuye with the 2005 FAA Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award, honoring his lifetime contributions as a certificated mechanic. At 78, Yotsuuye is a 40‑year veteran and Alaska Airlines’ most senior maintenance employee. His name will be added to the FAA’s Role of Honor at headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The Aviation Maintenance Technicians Awards program, launched in 1991, incentivizes technicians to engage actively in both initial and recurrent training, either independently or through employer‑subsidized initiatives.
