Allegiant Air Secures $30M, 4-Year Maintenance Agreement with American Airlines Maintenance Services
American Airlines Maintenance Services (AAMS) and Allegiant Air, a subsidiary of Allegiant Travel Company, have entered into a comprehensive four‑year maintenance agreement valued at more than $30 million. The contract covers engineering, planning, technical, and reliability services, component and landing‑gear repair, overhauls, and the full “Heavy C” airframe overhauls for Allegiant’s existing 24 MD‑80 series aircraft, with room for additional aircraft as the fleet expands.
“This comprehensive agreement with Allegiant is a perfect example of the wide range of technical capabilities that American Maintenance Services can provide for our customers,” said Bob Reding, Senior Vice President for Technical Operations at AAMS. “Our wide‑ and narrow‑body hangars, engine test cells, landing‑gear and component support shops, technical expertise, and customer‑focused workforce enable us to deliver value‑added, competitive technical services to all of our customers—including low‑cost carriers—by providing world‑class turnaround times at the highest quality and reliability, all in one place.”
Michael P. Baxter, Senior Vice President of Operations at Allegiant, added, “We selected American Maintenance Services because of the value they offer. They provide workmanship and materials of the highest quality and will expedite the return of our aircraft, meaning they can be back in revenue service faster.”
Carmine Romano, Vice President of AAMS’s overhaul base in Tulsa, said, “This contract represents another step toward becoming a world‑class Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) provider. That is very important to our employees, our customers and our stakeholders.” He also noted that the initial work will add one continuous dock line, with the potential to expand to two docks as Allegiant’s fleet grows.
Dennis Burchette, Vice President of Transport Workers Union Local 514 in Tulsa, remarked, “A long‑term contract such as this one demonstrates that Allegiant has great confidence in American’s maintenance personnel to perform quality work in a timely manner. The company will not be disappointed.”
Over the past three years, American Airlines and the Transport Workers Union have partnered on the “Working Together” team concept, applying Continuous Improvement principles. This collaboration has increased productivity across the maintenance organization and positioned American to win third‑party work—like the Allegiant contract—while reversing the outsourcing trend prevalent in the U.S. airline industry.
AAMS offers a full spectrum of airframe, engine, component, and line maintenance services, customized to meet each client’s specific needs. With 62 customers—80 % repeat business—across North and South America, AAMS operates from overhaul bases in Tulsa, OK; Fort Worth, TX; and Kansas City, MO, and provides line maintenance worldwide, including Latin America and Europe.
Allegiant Travel Company, headquartered in Las Vegas, focuses on connecting travelers in small cities to world‑class leisure destinations such as Las Vegas, Orlando, and Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL. Through its subsidiary, Allegiant Air, the company operates a low‑cost, high‑efficiency all‑jet passenger airline, offering flights both on a stand‑alone basis and bundled with hotel rooms, rental cars, and other travel services.
