Fluor Secures Five-Year Renewal to Supply Maintenance Services for Luminant Power Plants
On August 14, Fluor Corporation announced that it has secured a five‑year renewal to provide power‑plant maintenance and capital‑project support services to multiple Luminant sites. The contract, one of the largest in the U.S. electric‑utility sector, was booked in the second quarter of 2007, though its value was not disclosed.
“We look forward to extending our long‑term partnership with Luminant to deliver sustaining operations, maintenance and shutdown services at several of its power plants,” said Kirk Grimes, president of Fluor Global Services. “By employing a centrally managed yet flexible execution model, we can leverage our expert resources and program‑integration technologies to support each plant’s needs and Luminant’s broader business objectives.”
Since 1984, Fluor has delivered system‑wide operations and maintenance services that enable Luminant and its generation portfolio to reliably meet customer demand. The Luminant workforce at Fluor consists of more than 400 staff and craft personnel, peaking at up to 1,500 during outages.
“We remain committed to excellence in service execution, starting with rigorous safety standards,” said Rick Graves, senior vice president of Fluor Global Services. “Our goal is to help Luminant operate and maintain its assets at peak performance levels.”
The services will be performed at 18 Luminant power‑generating stations across Texas, totaling approximately 16,000 MW of capacity – making this one of the largest maintenance contracts in the U.S. electric‑utility industry.
Luminant, a subsidiary of TXU Corporation, is a competitive power‑generation business that also engages in mining, wholesale marketing, trading, construction and development operations. It has more than 18,300 MW of generation in Texas, including 2,300 MW of nuclear and 5,800 MW of coal‑fueled capacity. Luminant is also the largest purchaser of wind‑generated electricity in Texas and the fifth largest in the United States. TXU, headquartered in Dallas, operates a portfolio of competitive and regulated energy subsidiaries, primarily in Texas.
Fluor Corporation, a Fortune 500 company with $14.1 billion in revenue in 2006, offers engineering, procurement, construction, operations, maintenance and project‑management services on a global basis. Its headquarters are in Irving, Texas.
