Renesas Launches RX66T‑Powered Failure Detection e‑AI Solution for Motor‑Driven Home Appliances

Renesas Electronics has unveiled its new Failure Detection e‑AI Solution, built around the 32‑bit Renesas RX66T microcontroller. This platform fuses embedded AI with motor control to pinpoint faults in appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines, all without the need for extra sensors. By feeding the MCU with real‑time motor current or rotation data, manufacturers can detect anomalies and trigger alarms or schedule preventive maintenance, thereby boosting safety and reducing maintenance costs.

The RX66T’s high‑performance architecture allows simultaneous control of up to four motors. Typical washing machines already use three: one for drum rotation, one for water circulation, and one for the drying fan. The new solution consolidates these drivers into a single MCU while continuously monitoring each motor for abnormal behavior.

Developers can start quickly using the Renesas Motor Control Evaluation System paired with an RX66T CPU card. Sample program files and a user‑friendly GUI tool enable engineers to capture motor state data, train AI models, and validate fault‑detection logic. Once the models are finalized, the e‑AI development suite—comprising the e‑AI Translator, e‑AI Checker, and e‑AI Importer—streamlines deployment onto the RX66T.
