Microchip Launches Trust Platform: Secure, Pre-Provisioned IoT Hardware Solutions
Microchip Technology Inc. introduces the industry’s first pre‑provisioned, hardware‑based IoT security solution, built around the ATECC608A secure element. The Trust Platform delivers secure key storage and authentication across three scalable tiers, enabling deployments of any size.
Microchip’s Trust Platform, part of its CryptoAuthentication family, authenticates to public or private cloud infrastructures with proven security.
Designed for low, mid, and high‑volume device rollouts, the platform is especially valuable for small and medium‑sized enterprises that lack in‑house security expertise. It eliminates the need to provision each device manually, reducing time‑to‑market and operational risk.
Developers can choose from three tiers—Trust&GO, TrustFLEX, and TrustCUSTOM—each offering a different level of pre‑provisioning and customization to match their design requirements.
- Trust&GO – Zero‑touch, pre‑provisioned secure elements for mass market. Minimum order quantity (MOQ) starts at 10 units. Device credentials are pre‑programmed, shipped, and locked inside the ATECC608A, enabling automated cloud or LoRaWAN onboarding.
ATECC608A delivers a “high” rating in the Common Criteria Joint Interpretation Library (JIL), providing hardware‑based root‑of‑trust storage and cryptographic countermeasures. It is compatible with any microcontroller or microprocessor.
- TrustFLEX – Flexibility to use the customer’s certificate authority while benefiting from pre‑configured use cases. Use cases include TLS‑hardened authentication, LoRaWAN authentication, secure boot, OTA updates, IP protection, user data protection, and key rotation.
- TrustCUSTOM – Full customization with customer‑specific configuration and credential provisioning.
For rapid prototyping, developers can leverage the Trust Platform Design Suite, which contains:
- A guided “use case tool”
- Executable Python tutorials on Jupyter notebooks
- C code examples for each use case
- A “secret exchange” utility
- Trust Platform hardware development kits
