Zoltek Expands Mexican Plant, Adding 6,000‑Ton Capacity to Become World’s Largest Carbon‑Fiber Supplier
Zoltek Companies Inc., a recognized leader in industrial‑grade carbon fiber, is scaling its Guadalajara, Mexico facility to meet soaring demand across energy and transportation sectors.
In early 2023, the company will launch a new 6,000‑tonnes‑per‑year production line, complementing the 6,000‑tonne capacity added in 2021. Together, these expansions bring Zoltek’s North American output to 20,000 tonnes annually and elevate its global production to 35,000 tonnes, solidifying its position as the world’s largest carbon‑fiber supplier.
“Demand for our industrial‑grade carbon fiber continues to grow at a rapid pace,” says David Purcell, Executive Vice President. “With the 2021 and 2023 installations, we’re not only meeting current needs but also diversifying our customer base to build a stronger foundation for future growth.”
Zoltek’s PX35 fiber remains a top choice for industrial applications, offering a balanced blend of cost competitiveness and high performance.
