Polykemi Group Expands Global Footprint with New Compounding Plants in North America and China
Three months ago, Polykemi Group AB announced a $12 million investment to construct a new compounding facility in Gastonia, North Carolina. The company now confirms a second overseas site, a state‑of‑the‑art plant in central China, with both facilities slated to begin production in 2022. This strategic expansion places Polykemi on three continents—Europe, North America, and Asia—and strengthens its capacity to deliver high‑performance thermoplastic compounds worldwide.
CEO Magnus Lindahl said, 'Our premium materials are in high demand, and by expanding into central China, we can serve customers faster and more efficiently.'
Polykemi’s Chinese operations began in 2005 with the launch of Polykemi Compounds in Kunshan, a suburb of Shanghai. The site has grown into a leading manufacturer of customized plastic compounds, leveraging both virgin and high‑quality recycled feedstocks. In 2019, a third production line was inaugurated, further boosting capacity. Next year, the Group will open a new facility in Chongqing, located 1,600 km from Kunshan, to broaden its reach across the Chinese market.
Polykemi’s portfolio covers almost every thermoplastic, excluding PVC, and has a strong presence in Europe and Asia. The Group entered North America in 2014 through a joint venture with Omni Plastics in Evansville, Indiana.
