Arkema Finalizes Sale of PMMA Business to Trinseo, Strengthening Specialty Materials Focus

Arkema and Trinseo completed the transaction that will transfer Arkema’s PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) business to Trinseo. The deal is a milestone in Arkema’s 2024 transformation plan, positioning the company as a pure‑specialty materials leader focused on adhesives, advanced materials and coatings.

The divested unit, which employs roughly 860 people and operates seven production sites—four in Europe and three in North America—will now operate under Trinseo, a global specialist in plastics, synthetic rubber and latex binders.

Under Trinseo, the PMMA operation remains fully integrated, covering everything from methyl methacrylate synthesis to PMMA production. The portfolio, sold under the well‑known Plexiglas brand in the United States and Altuglas worldwide, continues to hold market leadership in automotive, construction, signage, display, and sanitary ware sectors.

This transition underscores Arkema’s unwavering commitment to its specialty materials strategy and positions both companies for future growth.
