How to Properly Use a Fire Blanket: Quick, Safe, and Effective Fire Suppression

Fire blankets are high‑temperature fiberglass fabrics that are lightweight, soft, and provide a heat‑resistant barrier. Ideal for smothering small fires—kitchen, electrical, or gas flames—fire blankets eliminate secondary pollution, making them a superior alternative to conventional extinguishers for household emergencies.

Type A: For an object in flames

  1. Remove the fire blanket by pulling down sharply on the tabs at the bottom of the package.
  2. Unfold the blanket fully, ensuring it covers your hands, then gently drape it over the flames to seal the fire from air.
  3. Turn off any power or gas supply and leave the blanket in place until the object cools.
  4. Call the fire department if the fire is large or does not subside.

Type B: For a person in flames
  1. Remove the fire blanket by pulling down sharply on the tabs at the bottom of the package.
  2. Unfold the blanket fully, ensuring it covers your hands, then wrap it around the person to smother the fire.
  3. Seek immediate medical assistance.
