EN 10085 Grade 34CrAlMo5 – Quenched & Tempered Steel for High‑Temperature Applications

The nitriding steel 34 CrAlMo 5 can undergo quenchhardening and is used for parts of hot steam fittings that have a high fatigue strength at temperatures from 350 to 500 degrees C. Suitable for dimensions of up to 80 mm. Construction components: valve spindles and plates. Further use: plunger pistons, piston rods, spindles in grinders and milling machines, measuring equipment. The steel contains a nitride agent (Cr) which contributes through the nitriding process or the nitro-carburization process with N or N and C to a higher: - case hardness - abrasion resistance - fatigue strength and - corrosion resistance. It is used for forged construction components: quench-hardened, mechanically processed and treated thermo-chemically (for example nitriding). The steel with an increased Al-content is susceptible to increased decarbonization. The forging requires sufficient additives for processing so that the finished construction component can undergo the nitriding process without decarburization.
