Lohmann Launches UV‑Activated Adhesive Line, Boosting Composite Bonding Strength

Lohmann Corp. & Subsidiaries (Orange, Virg., U.S.) has expanded its Reactive Chemistry Adhesives for composite-related applications, which now includes UV-LUX, what the company claims is the world’s first UV light-activated adhesive with color change. UV-LUX is a patented, fast-acting epoxy resin that is reported to be stronger and more resilient than pressure-sensitive (PSA) tapes and liquid adhesives.

According to David Nicely, Lohmann business development manager, UV-LUX streamlines production while adding both strength and pliability to semi-structural bonds. Tacky at room temperature and bonding quickly when exposed to UV light, the epoxy resin changes colors as it adheres and cures, signaling its chemical progression. The adhesive turns blue at room temperature. When activated by UV light, it turns pink. Within 24 hours, the color changes to purple, indicating curing is complete.

Lohmann notes that UV-LUX is an ideal solution for any number of design challenges. It enables precision engineering, adds efficiency to manufacturing and assembly, is invisible with transparent materials and improves the product performance.
