Century Tool Boosts Capacity for Large Composite Molds with New Advanced Milling Machine

Century Tool, (Fenton, Mich., U.S.) a Tooling Tech Group company, has announced the expansion of its compression moldmaking operations with the installation of a new FPT Ronin EVO 3+2-axis horizontal milling machine. The new machine can reportedly accommodate workpiece sizes ranging to to 343 inches long by 100 inches deep by 120 inches tall, making it capable of handling large steel or aluminum molds. The company also says it is capable of producing molds weighing more than 100,000 pounds.

Th new machine is an upgrade to one of Century’s two existing FTP 4-axis machining centers in its facility. The company provides compression molds for processes that use sheet molded compounds (SMC), bulk molded compounds (BMC), direct long fiber thermoplastics (D-LFT), dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), resin transfer molding (RTM) and carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP).
