New LSFOH Cable Jacketing Compounds Enhance Longevity and Reduce Waste
Avient has expanded its low‑smoke, low‑fume, non‑halogen (LSFOH) portfolio with two advanced cross‑linkable polyolefin compounds—ECCOH 5565 and ECCOH 5978 UV—tailored for telecom and industrial cable manufacturers.
With fiber‑optic demand and the IEC 60794‑6 standard driving market growth, these formulations deliver superior performance while extending cable life, thereby cutting material waste.

ECCOH 5565 offers exceptional flexibility and environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR), enduring up to 20,000 flex fatigue cycles. Its broad temperature tolerance—from –104 °F to 176 °F—and low water absorption make it ideal for power and control cables in industrial machinery, HVAC systems, and plant engineering. The compound also excels in dry optical‑fiber and 5G hybrid cables, providing cold‑weather resilience for indoor and outdoor duct applications.
ECCOH 5978 UV delivers high flame retardancy (CPR class B2ca, s1, a1, d) and robust char formation while maintaining ESCR. Its superior UV resistance protects aerial drop cables from continuous clamp stress and varying weather. The formulation is also suitable for buried, duct, and indoor cables where low dripping and flame performance are critical.
Matt Mitchell, Avient’s Global Marketing Director, states, “In an era where communication speed and reliability are paramount, high‑performance cable solutions are in high demand. These new formulations enable manufacturers to meet that demand and extend product lifespan.”
