Stratasys Introduces ABS‑CF10 Carbon‑Fiber Filament for Advanced FDM 3D Printing
Stratasys, headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, has unveiled ABS‑CF10, a 10% chopped‑carbon‑fiber filament that brings the strength of carbon fiber to its F123 Series FDM printers.
The F123 Series, which integrates FDM technology with GrabCAD’s design‑to‑print software, now includes high‑performance models such as the F170, F270, and F370, expanding access to carbon‑fiber composites across a broader range of applications.
ABS‑CF10 delivers 15% higher tensile strength and more than 50% greater stiffness than standard ABS, all while keeping weight comparable to plastic—making it a compelling metal‑alternative for jigs, fixtures, and tooling.
Its high‑resolution printing capability, combined with QSR’s water‑soluble support material, allows for intricate geometries without the labor of manual support removal.
Stratasys estimates the additive manufacturing market for polymer jigs and fixtures will grow at a 14.2% CAGR from 2019 to 2023, reaching nearly $600 million—double the growth rate of the preceding four years. The new material targets aerospace, automotive, industrial, and recreational manufacturing sectors, with applications ranging from robot end‑effectors and ergonomic lift aids to assembly‑line alignment fixtures.
“Manufacturers are turning to 3D‑printed carbon fiber because it is strong, versatile, and lightweight,” said Dick Anderson, Stratasys senior VP of manufacturing. “By introducing ABS‑CF10 we enable all our FDM customers to leverage these material advantages, advancing 3D printing’s role in global manufacturing.”
ABS‑CF10 will be available in April 2021, and orders are being accepted now.
