Essential Precision Measuring Instruments for High-Accuracy Manufacturing

Precision measuring tools are known to be used in the manufacturing world when considering products with low tolerance. When thinking or trying to make quality products to meet their desired tolerance of cause precision measuring tools must come into use.

Precision measuring instruments are tools and devices that are used directly in measuring physical quantities. It can also be used in obtaining measurements indirectly by making calculations on real-world objects in a way that precise value can be obtained.

Both school and college laboratories make use of these measuring tools to obtain high accuracy and precision. In this article, you’ll be exposed to the common types of precision measuring instruments used in the industrial world for inside, outer and linear measurement.

Types of precision measuring instruments

The common types of precision measuring instruments include vernier caliper and micrometer screw gauge.

Vernier caliper:

A Vernier caliper is a device that is used to measure internal and external dimensions as well as linear measurements. It offers great accuracy to the objects when placed in between the jaws. The Vernier caliper consists of a scale with marking called a Vernier scale, which is attached to a slider. This slider is having a pointer, which is used in taking in-depth dimensions.

Micrometer screw gauge:

This measuring instrument is in a u-shape frame with a fixed sleeve. It is used to take measurements of thin wires or thickness of thin metal sheets. Micrometer screw gauge has advantages over Vernier caliper as it has the ability to take smaller dimensions. Two reading is taken at a time, as the rotating thimble moment is converted to linear movement of the spindle. This makes the main scale and Vernier scale are displayed on the sleeve and thimble respectively.

That is all for this article, where the common types of precision measuring instruments are being discussed. I hope you enjoy the reading, if so, kindly share with other students. Thanks for reading, see you next time!
