Key Drivers of Maintenance Excellence at BakeMark's Bakery Plant
At BakeMark SPA, safeguarding plant safety and boosting production efficiency is central to our maintenance strategy. We are committed to delivering premium bakery ingredients while consistently increasing output and minimizing maintenance needs.
Located in Crema, southeast of Milan, the company employs 500 people and is part of the Dutch multinational CSM group. BakeMark is the market leader in mayonnaise, margarine, and intermediates for bread and frozen sweets, producing more than 18,000 tons annually.
To achieve these ambitious goals, the plant adopted Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and the Japanese Kaizen philosophy, driving continuous, incremental improvements across all processes.
“To improve our production, we increase the responsibility of our operators,” says Fiorino Patrini, maintenance manager at the Crema plant. “To make their work easier, we had to find the right lubricants partner.”
Eight years ago, BakeMark introduced Petro‑Canada’s PURITY food‑grade lubricants throughout the facility. The switch enabled longer relubrication intervals and tighter control of lubrication at critical points in the production line.
The Test
BakeMark began its lubricant assessment with the transport chains. Chains were cleaned and inspected daily. PURITY FG heavy‑chain fluid displayed excellent initial adhesion and maintained coverage even after pressure cleaning, ensuring continuous protection where needed.
Product Benefits
Petro‑Canada lubricants are formulated with 99.9 percent pure base oils and produced via the patented HT purity process, yielding crystal‑clear fluids free of performance‑hinderng impurities.
PURITY FG chain fluids resist oxidative breakdown and protect against wear and corrosion. Their tacky nature secures strong adhesion to metal surfaces, resisting water washout and spray loss in wet food processing environments.
The Results
BakeMark reports significant gains in line performance. “We see much better production line performance,” says Patrini. “Maintenance hours have dropped, and machine controls have become less intensive.”
Petro‑Canada offers a full product range that meets BakeMark’s plant and machinery requirements. After success with PURITY FG heavy‑chain fluid, the company incorporated PURITY FG grease, gear fluid, compressor fluid, heat‑transfer fluid, MF aerosol lubricant, and REFLO 68A ammonia refrigeration compressor fluid into various plant applications.
The successful integration was driven by close collaboration between BakeMark SPA and Petro‑Canada Technical Services. Through its extensive distributor network and the expertise of Emanuele Mascherpa S.P.A., Petro‑Canada delivers comprehensive support and quality solutions.
These food‑grade lubricants have proven their value and blend seamlessly into BakeMark’s continuous‑improvement philosophy.
